Community Interview #33: Lisa

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

Meet Lisa. Our sober curious expat who lives in Malaysia. I was so excited to have someone joining us from Malaysia. What she and I have in common is that we both lived in Malaysia and probably crossed paths at some point before I left. It’s so amazing that our classes bring people together from all over the world, what more amazing is that we get the chance to get to know them a little more with our community interview blog. I present to you our start for the week…

Hi Lisa! Tell us a little bit about yourself! Who is Lisa?

Lisa: My name is Lisa. I am an international school teacher in Kuala Lumpur. My husband is also a teacher, we have 3 kids ages 21, 18 and 16.

How did you meet Alex?

Lisa: I heard Alex on another podcast that I was listening to about sober curiosity and thought that she sounded really positive so I looked her up and found the MLPC.

Have you ever had any experience with yoga before joining the MLPC?

Lisa: I have been doing yoga sporadically for over 25 years but am trying to make it more part of my life.

What are the biggest benefits you’ve reaped from your yoga practice?

Lisa: I am loving not drinking alcohol and find yoga very good way to manage stress and stay healthy.

How did you end up being so committed to yoga?

Lisa: I like planning my week around my yoga, rather than just fitting it in so the 30 day challenge was great!

What is your favorite type(s) of yoga? And why?

Lisa: I enjoy all types of yoga but it depends on the day and time of day. As I get older I find I am loving Yin Yoga for it's slow pace and deep stretching.

What’s your favorite posture? What’s your most difficult posture?

Lisa: My favorite pose is happy baby! And my worst is pigeon! I have really tight hips!

Any words of wisdom to those just starting out?

Lisa: As for people starting out in yoga or sobriety, just give yourself grace and take one day at a time :-)

Thank you Lisa for the wonderful interview. We’re so happy to have you as part of our community!
