Community Interview #22: Marty

We’re so happy to have reached so many people this season. As well the return of old friends. Meet Marty. Marty joined the 30 Day Sober Challenge last December and rejoined us again this Back to School season. She and Alex met on Facebook, were they connected through sobriety. Marty likes classes like Mindful Let Go, Abundance Manifestation (Let Go) and Mindful Flow 2. Read more to lean about yet another amazing community member…

Hi Marty! Tell us a little bit about yourself! Who is Marty?

Marty: I am a theatre director/ educator who lives in Keene NH USA. I was born in Zimbabwe and spent the first 5 years of my life there. That has had a huge impact on my life. I am 56 years old and have a 19 year old son and a 17 year old daughter and 3 step kids and 10 step grandkids 😊

What inspired you to start practicing yoga?

Marty: I have ALWAYS wanted to start a Yoga practice but never was able to make it happen, working full time and taking care of my family. That’s a great thing that came out of Covid, these Zoom classes! The archive classes are also fabulous and having that flexibility is wonderful.

Have you ever had any experience with yoga before joining the MLPC?

Marty: I only “dabbled” in it.

What’s your connection to the MLPC?

Marty: Not sure what this question means? I am currently taking classes and LOVING meeting all of these wonderful people all over the globe 😊

Every teacher that I have worked with has been absolutely wonderful. I so appreciate the variety of classes that are taught and the individual style that each teacher brings to their classes.

How did you end up being so committed to yoga?

Marty: I still struggle with my daily practice but am trying to make

“showing up on my mat” a daily priority. I have an autoimmune disease and started to Yoga to try to help that but am finding that the overflow of benefits for my daily life has been AMAZING!

Did you face any challenges during the month of September?

Marty: Yes. Of course. Getting back into the swing of things of the school schedule is always a challenge, but also exciting!

What are the biggest benefits you’ve reaped from your yoga practice?

Marty: I feel much more calm in general. I am noticing that I also feel much stronger and more flexible.

What’s your favorite posture?

Marty: Lying spinal twist and Happy Baby😊

What’s your most difficult posture?

Marty: Any stretches with my FEET! They are so stiff!

What is your favorite type(s) of yoga? And why?

Marty: I have just discovered YIN [Mindful Let Go] and I LOVE it because of the deep stretching and being still like that is a good challenge for me!

Any words of wisdom to those just starting out?

Marty: Just keep showing up at the mat, NO MATTER WHAT! Don’t be afraid to ask Yasir for help 😊 He is an invaluable resource and super patient with those of us who are technologically limited. Even though he is in another time zone, he always seems to be there to answer questions (when DOES he sleep???).

Aww Marty you’re so kind. We’re so glad that Marty and the MLPC found their way to each other again. Catch Marty in one of our awesome live classes
