Building the Mindful Life Practice (Crown Chakra Photo Album)

The seventh chakra is the crown chakra, or the sahasrara chakra. In English, it translates to ‘thousand-fold’. Its purpose is awakening, understanding and consciousness. When it’s out of balance, we may experience attachment or ignorance. When it is in balance, we will experience awareness and intelligence (Judith 34 – 35).


In 2019, after I got sober, I started building The Mindful Life Practice - the business that eventually allowed me to quit my job as a teacher.


Here's some of the memories from that year.



In the pandemic, I lost the job where I taught yoga in the United Arab Emirates. I started teaching yoga on Zoom - never thinking it would grow into the community we now have today.

After starting Zoom yoga, I would spend HOURS building my website every single day. I had a complex offering, because my members had access to Zoom yoga classes with more than 25 yoga teachers around the world, and an on demand library of thousands of classes.

I learned quickly onwards that the online yoga world was saturated, so I started exploring finding a niche. That's when I did Sober Yoga for the first time - and it was a hit! My first sober yoga classes were sold out immediately on Zoom.

Meanwhile, every time I left the apartment in Abu Dhabi I looked like this...masks and gloves were strictly mandated in public places.

Our community quickly grew. Matt Ellis was part of our first cohort of graduates from our first yoga teacher training. He did yoga every day with us on Zoom in 2020.

I started running Sober Curious Challenges every month for 30 Days.

I launched the Podcast, Sober Yoga Girl Podcast. Now, we have over 200 episodes and over 200,000 downloads of the show. But it took time to build!

Eventually, I started running my first sober events and making merchandise! These glasses were made for the first ever Mindful Sundowners event, a cruise with alcohol free drinks and yoga.

We started running 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings online in 2021, and the very first cohort graduated then. It was amazing to teach students all around the world.

In June of 2021, I hosted my first retreat ever at the Al Ain Rotana. I continue to partner with the Rotana to this day for retreats in the UAE twice a year.

I have been living with a mood disorder, anxiety and chronic stress since I was a child and teenager. These mental health issues went undiagnosed - leading me regulate and manage my mental health struggles with the two things that helped: alcohol, and yoga. I began teaching yoga at age twenty-one, and although I knew it was my life purpose, my self doubt and my drinking problems held me back.

Once I got sober, I no longer had booze to help me regulate my nervous system - leading me to get more and more passionate, serious about mindfulness, yoga and meditation to manage my moods. And this is why I’ve created this ten part series for you: meditations for difficult emotions. There are three yoga practices and seven meditation practices that are your go-to if you’re experiencing extreme mind body states and need to anchor, reconnect, and regulate yourself. Note: I do not encourage stopping taking your medication during this program.
